Barry moved to Brampton in 1960 and this marked the beginning of a remarkable 37 yearcareer in lacrosse. Barry’s exceptional lacrosse skills helped his teams achieve wins invarious championships, culminating with a 1980 Mann Cup Championship, defeating the NewWestminster Salmonbellies 4-1. Along the way, Barry was part of the Brampton Excelsior’ssuccess in winning the President’s Cup in 1972, the Eastern Canadian Championship in1975, 1976, 1977 and 1981 and the Ontario Midget “A” Championship in 1966. Barry’sdefensive qualities rank him amongst the best that Brampton has ever produced.
Having played lacrosse for only nine years, Barry rapidly climbed the lacrosse ladder ofexcellence, playing Semi-Pro Lacrosse for the Peterborough Lakers in 1969. A short 5 years later heplayed Pro Lacrosse for the Philadelphia Wings.
Barry was President of the Brampton Excelsior Lacrosse Club in 1984 and 1985. He coached the BramptonJr. “A” Excelsiors from 1992 to 1995 and was named the Ontario Lacrosse Association Jr. “A” Coach ofthe Year in 1992 and in 1994 by his peers. In 1994, Barry coached his team to a Canadian Minto CupChampionship berth by winning the Ontario Jr. “A” Championship.
In 1989, Barry was honored by the Brampton Excelsior’s as a Life Time Member. He was also electedinto the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2001.
Now residing with his wife Dianne in Georgetown and a grandfather of 2, Barry also enjoys a bit of icehockey now and then.
