Bob Burke

Bob Burke’s contribution to the game of lacrosse stretches over four decades. His list ofaccomplishments is very impressive. Bob was inducted into the Ontario Lacrosse Hallof Fame in 1998 and in 2001 was inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. In1989 Bob was elected a Life Member of the Brampton Excelsior Lacrosse Club. He wasnamed Ontario Junior “A” Lacrosse Coach of the Year in 1994 and coached the BramptonTyke Lacrosse Team to the Ontario “B” Championship in 1998.

Bob’s playing career in Lacrosse began in 1960, and his success spanned two decadeswhere he achieved such accomplishments as becoming the Brampton Excelsiors all-time point leader,having played 352 games, earning 1509 points with 646 goals and adding 863 assists. He was amember of the Canadian Mann Cup Championship Team in 1980 and was selected as the League’sMost Valuable Player that year. In 1978 Bob was a member of Team Canada, which won the WorldField Lacrosse Championship and was later inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame. He wasa member of the Excelsior teams that won the Ontario Senior “A” Championships in 1975, 1977, 1980and 1981. Bob was also the captain of the Brampton Junior “A” Excelsiors team that won theLeague Championship in 1976. Bob was elected the Ontario Junior “A” Most Valuable Player in1974 and is the Junior “A” Excelsiors all-time point leader, playing 163 games, scoring 787 pointson 330 goals and adding 457 assists. In recent years Bob has coached lacrosse in the BramptonMinor Lacrosse Association.

Bob’s father Michael played many years for the Excelsiors, and his son Michael is currently a memberin the Brampton Minor Lacrosse system.
