Cecil Stokoe
Cecil Stokoe became a Brampton resident in 1974 after immigrating to Canada fromthe United Kingdom. He has demonstrated his love and passion for the game of tennisever since.
Stokoe, also known as “Ironman”, “Tiger”, “Ces”, and “Master Cec” has many medals underhis belt from the world of tennis. After being diagnosed with Leukemia in 1993, Stokoecontinued to play and compete. Stokoe beat the odds by maintaining a very high fitnesslevel, combined with brilliant shot making decisions and control of the game. His devotion, determinationand spirit of the game have definitely been proven throughout his years of competition.
At the age of 69, Stokoe competed in the World Masters Championship, winning the World AmateurSingles gold medal in Edmonton, Alberta. From 2002 to 2006, Stokoe competed in the CanadianSenior Games four times, winning three gold medals and one bronze medal.
Stokoe has been a member of the Brampton Tennis Club since 1975. He pioneered houseleague teams, became the Club President in 1987 and has been an Honorary Member of theClub since 2005.
