E . HERBERT ARMSTRONG 1896 - 1974 Monies bequeathed by Mr. Herb Armstrong assisted with the founding of the City of Brampton Sports Hall of Fame. In September, 1980, it was decided by the Sports Hall of Fame Board of Governors that Herb would be the first and only inductee in 1981. On November 25, 1981 he was posthumously inducted into the Builders’ Section of the Sports Hall of Fame. His contribution to sports in Brampton was never ending, knew no season. The Brampton sports fraternity honored Herb at a testimonial dinner in 1972. Premier William G. Davis, who attended the dinner, said, “There should be more Herb Armstrongs in sports in Ontario.” In 1975, Herb was posthumously inducted into the Builders’ section of the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
