Paul McLean

“Mac” was a highly respected producer and executive producer for The SportsNetwork (TSN). In a five-year period, stretching from 2001 – 2005 he received 4Gemini nominations for his outstanding work with the Canadian Football League(CFL).

Mac grew up in Brampton, where he played minor hockey and softball. However,his greatest love in sports was golf.

Mac was at TSN for 18 years, and in addition to working on curling for 10 years, he wasresponsible for TSN’s other major mobile productions such as CFL, International Hockey, PGA,Tennis and Baseball. He raised the awareness of the CFL, Canadian Curling and World JuniorHockey with growing television coverage in Canada. TSN’s CFL and curling productions becamewidely acknowledged as “the best in Canadian television”. Mac was also the creator of “Wendy’sFriday Night Football” on TSN, which has become a TSN trademark. In memory of Mac, the 10thanniversary of TSN’s CFL season (2006) was dedicated to him.

Mac’s coverage of the Sydney 2000 and Salt Lake City 2002 Olympics was outstanding, andbrought him special recognition from the television industry.

In 2007, TSN together with the Canadian Curling Reporters established the Paul McLean award.It will be presented annually at the Brier to a member of the media who works behind the scenes,and like Paul has made a significant contribution to the sport of curling.

Paul was a friend and mentor to all in the sports industry, and a loving uncle tohis beloved niece Jessica. In his memory, his men’s recreational hockey leagueteammates from the “Coyotes” hung his hockey jersey in the Real Stars Restaurant,located at the Powerade Centre.
