Sean Simpson

The Chicago Black Hawks drafted Sean in 1980. Earlier that year he played for Canadain the World Junior Hockey Championships in Helsinki, Finland. The next season he wenton to play with the New Brunswick Hawks in the American Hockey League (AHL) and theywon the Calder Cup as AHL Champions. He was voted ‘Most Sportsmanlike Player’ in1982-83 during his time with the AHL Springfi eld Indians. Sean also played professionalhockey in Europe. In Holland, he was the league-scoring champion in 1984, 1986 and1987. He won the Dutch Championships in 1987, playing with Rotterdam. He also playedin Austria, Italy and Switzerland during his eight-year career. In 2000, Sean was voted the‘Best Import Player’ over the past 35 years in Holland.

Drafted in the second round of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) draft by Ottawa, Sean played for the‘67’s from 1978 - 1980, during which time he played on a record setting line with Jim Fox and Yvon Joly.In 1979-80 he was named to the OHL fi rst all-star team and fi nished fourth in league scoring. In 1998he was an Honourable mention to the ‘67’s All-Time-Team (390 points). Sean was also an accomplishedJunior ‘A’ Lacrosse player, and in 1976 he helped the Brampton Excelsiors to an O.L.A. Championshipand to a berth in the Canadian Minto Cup Championships. Sean has the distinction of winning the‘Most Sportsmanlike Player’ award in both the Ontario Hockey League and the Ontario LacrosseAssociation Junior “A’ League.

After his playing days ended, Sean turned to coaching. He coached EV-Zug in the Swiss ‘A’ League,helping the Junior Team to a National Championship. He was the assistant coach for Team Canada atthe Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland in 1994 & 1995, and they won the Gold medal in both years.In 1997/1998 he coached the Zug 1st division team to the National Swiss Title and in 1999/2000 wassuccessful again when he coached the Munich Barons to the National German Championship.
