Steve Mastine
Steve and his Brampton Excelsior’s defeated the New Westminster Salmonbellies 4-1,thereby becoming the 1980 Canadian Mann Cup Champions. His team also won theOntario Lacrosse Association (OLA) Major Championship in 1975, 1976, 1977, 1980and 1981. Steve also helped Canada win the title of “World Champions” in the 1978World Men’s Field Lacrosse Championship held in Manchester, England.
Immediately leaving his mark in lacrosse, Steve won the 1968 OLA Jr. “A” Rookie of theYear Award. He followed this up in 1971 by winning the OLA Jr. “A” Scoring Championship.He was just as successful in the Senior “A” division winning the 1972 OLA Rookie ofthe Year Award and the 1972 OLA Scoring Championship, helping his team win the 1972 CanadianLacrosse Association (CLA) Presidents Cup. Steve also won the 1977 OLA Scoring Championshipin the Major Division.
Steve Mastine is no stranger to the opposition’s goaltender. Within the Brampton Excelsior’s LacrosseClub, Steve’s all time scoring ranks 9th in Junior “A” and 3rd in Major. In the OLA rankings, Steve ranked36th in Junior “A” and 30th in Major.
In 1989 Steve was honored through the receipt of a Life Time Member designation from the BramptonExcelsior Lacrosse Club. In 2002 Steve was also inducted into the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
Currently, Steve resides in Cheltenham with his wife Heather. He is a coach in Brampton MinorLacrosse in both “box” and “fi eld”. Steve was the Assistant Coach for the Brampton Minor LacrosseAssociation Excelsior Bantam “B” team that earned the title of Provincial “B” Champions in 2003.
