Terry Baytor

Terry Baytor, a Brampton resident, has excelled on both the International and National SoftballScene. In eight international competitions, his Canadian National Men’s Softball Team won sixchampionship titles and had one fi nalist showing.

With an International Coaching career record of 79 wins and only 9 losses, Terry has establishedhimself as one of the most successful softball coaches in the world. In 1992, he coached theCanadian team to a Gold medal at the International Softball Federation World Championshipswith a perfect 10-0 record. Terry brought a total of 5 Gold medals home to Canada from the PanAmerican Games; one each in 1983 and 1987 as an Assistant Coach, and then in 1991, 1995and 1999 as the Head Coach. Terry was inducted into the Softball Canada Hall of Fame in 1997,along with his entire 1983 Pan Am National Team. Terry was also honoured by the Coaching Association ofCanada with their “Coach of the Year” award in 1992.

In addition to his National Team duties, Terry coached and was a member of one of the most successfulclub teams in Canadian softball history, the Toronto Gators. During the period 1993-1996, the Gators won 3Canadian Championships, going undefeated in both 1995 and 1996. They are the only Canadian team to everwin the International Softball Congress Championship, doing so in both 1993 and 1995. Terry also coachedthe Tampa Bay Smokers during their 1998 ISC championship season.

Off the fi eld, Terry is an accomplished motivational speaker on coaching, and he has been a driving forcebehind increased funding, sponsorship opportunities and coaching development. Terry has been a majorcontributor to the National Coaching Certifi cation Program and co-authored the N.C.C.P. level 4/5 coachingprogram that presently exists in Canada. During his earlier years, he excelled as a player in both footballand baseball, and was invited to the New York Yankees “rookie prospects camp” in 1969. In 2001, Terryretired as Head Coach of the Men’s program and has since assumed the Chair position of the CanadianWomen’s National Softball Team.
